Regina Coeli Catechists

The Catechist team at Regina Coeli is a group of volunteers who teach the Catholic faith to the children in our State Schools. These schools are Beverly Hills North and Narwee Public. Beverly Hills North has over 120 catholic children enrolled in classes from Kindergarten to Year Six. Narwee Public has about 70 Catholic children enrolled.

To teach these children, we have a team of fourteen volunteer catechists. Most are retired men and women, and with no previous experience of teaching our faith. However, the team is supported by Faith Education Officers from the Diocesan Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD), which is largely funded by the Charitable Works Appeals conducted every year in each Parish. The CCD provides training course in teaching method and theology, and also provides the Curriculum and Workbooks for the Catechists to use with their classes.

The catechist team meets once a school term to give each other support and encouragement. We also attend various devotional and training meetings organized at the District ( Bankstown) and Diocesan level. We also have our own Catechist Room in the Parish Centre, which contains a rich supply of Bible storybooks and pictures to use in lessons.

We see our mission as vital to nourishing the faith of the children who attend State schools. Catechists also assist with the Sacramental Programs of First Communion and Confirmation. Most of our Catechists have been teaching for many years and love the mission greatly. We are always interested in recruiting new members, either as teachers, helpers or prayer partners.
